Thalweg is a one-person operation.
One person built it and wrote the software. The same person puts the array in the river and keeps it running.
Founder & Principal Scientist
Eamonn Powers
Fisheries scientist, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Eamonn built Thalweg while studying the lake sturgeon of the Grand River. It started as a way around a counting problem that was blocking his own research, and it kept going once it was clear the problem wasn't only his.
He mounts and maintains the acoustic hardware in a spring river. He also wrote the GPU pipeline that turns what the array records into tracks a biologist can review, and he is the inventor named on Thalweg's provisional patent.

Collaborators
The field data behind Thalweg were collected during a lake sturgeon study on the lower Grand River led by the Grand Rapids Public Museum, with Grand Valley State University and project partners, and supported by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust. Thalweg's software was written independently.
We're looking for a second river, and for people already monitoring it who are willing to run Thalweg alongside whatever they use now and see whether it holds up there.
